June Shackley
June Shackley is from the N’lakapamux First Nation, which neighbours Merritt, BC, as were both of her parents and grandparents.
She is an Indian Residential School Survivor. For nine years, from the ages of 5 to 14, she attended school for Anglican children in Lytton, BC.
She has worked in various healthcare positions from 1965 to 2019 (54 years). After 30 enjoyable years as a Registered Nurse, and due to the COVID pandemic, she reluctantly retired.
Presently, she is:

An Elder Cultural support worker for the Indian Residential School Survivor Society;

A Grandmother for the Indigenous Health Nursing Research team with Lisa Bearskin, RN, PhD;

An Elder for the Indigenous Leadership Circle with the Human Rights and Equity caucuses with the BC Nurses Union;

and a board member for the Out of the Cold shelter in Kamloops.
Her goal is to do the best she can to improve the health of all First Nations people.
